Cyanotypes at AAIMS
Three weeks ago I began making cyanotypes with 5-7 year olds in the elementary program. They were already grasping that they were making 'negatives' and that the sun is used to harden the solution making the cyan color. This week we worked with actual photos instead of just found objects and drawings. They took their own photos and coated the paper-the only part I really helped them with was to print the negatives and wash the prints. I am extremely excited to keep working with them on cyanotypes specifically since it's not a medium that they will be exposed to very often. We created two separate types of compositions: found nature objects for one piece and still life/ self-portraits for another.
